This cruise loyalty program comparison lines up the major ocean programs on the points that actually differ: what earns credit, how many levels there are, where the thresholds sit and whether status is shared with sister brands. Tier names and numbers are as the lines publish them; check the line’s page before you rely on one.

Reading the Chart

Three patterns stand out. First, night-based programs (Royal Caribbean, Norwegian) reward long sailings in any cabin, while cabin-weighted programs (Celebrity) reward premium staterooms. Second, cruise-count programs (Princess, Virgin, Disney) favor travelers who take several short trips over one long one. Third, Carnival’s spend-based model rewards higher fares and onboard spending more than time at sea.

Solo travelers get a notable edge on three programs: Royal Caribbean and Celebrity double points for solo guests (Celebrity when the full fare is paid), and Princess gives two cruise credits for a solo exclusive-occupancy fare.

Where Thresholds Really Sit

A rough way to compare ladders is to ask how much cruising reaches a genuinely useful level. On Royal Caribbean, Diamond (80 points) is about 80 nights in a standard cabin, or 40 in a suite. On Norwegian, Platinum at 75 points is a similar distance, and its benefits apply on sailings of five nights or longer. On Princess, Platinum arrives after five cruises or 50 days. Holland America’s Four-Star level, where laundry and priority check-in begin, takes 200 credits. Carnival’s levels depend on dollars rather than nights, so the distance varies with what you book.

None of this is a reason to switch lines on its own. Pick the ships and itineraries you enjoy, then use the chart to understand how quickly those trips build status.

What the Chart Leaves Out

  • Perk details, which change more often than tier names — see each program’s page.
  • Luxury and expedition lines’ past-guest societies, which focus on savings and events.
  • Promotional bonuses such as double-point offers, which come and go.
  • Co-branded credit card points, which are separate from cruise status.

Comparison Questions

Is there a single cruise loyalty program comparison score?

No honest one. The programs count different things, so a single score would hide what matters. Compare how each one earns against the way you actually cruise.

Do loyalty levels transfer between unrelated cruise lines?

Not automatically. Points are not pooled across companies. Some lines run status match offers for members of other programs from time to time; check the line’s own page while the offer is open.
